BUUL 5-6-7 and 13-14 may 2017

BUUL – groupsexhibition – opening 5 may 2017

‘T Hof Ten Broucke is an old square town located in the wavy landscape of Saint-Maria-Horebeke, in the heart of the Flemish Ardennes. The oldest entries of the small village dates back to 1090, when they talked about Horenbecca, coming from ‘hurnjon’ (highland) and ‘baki’ (brook). This farm, house and barn, horse stable and inner courtyard, meadows and orchard, is the perfect location for a first edition of the group exhibition ‘BUUL’. The location rooted in the rugged Flemish soil, the artists rooted in themselves.
What does it mean to have a house in our current society full of nomads? What does a home as a place of residence mean, as a place in society, if it moves naturally in an environment with like-minded ones, who accept your lifestyle and allow you to unfold, a place without fear?
Buul is a Somali word and translates as a nest but also as a lodge, inn, house. Ten artists went on to challenge. Their research resulted in a richly crafted exhibition in and around the square.
The participating artists are Ann Vander Roost, Chantal Pollier, Els Van Poucke, Fleepp, Kaya Jakovits, K. Kwartsman, Meyke de Leeuw, Peter Lein, Thomas Eggermont and Valentina Lari.
On May 5, the exhibition will be opened ceremonially, with an introductory lecture by Koen Willems, psychiatrist. Fleepp then brings a live soundscape.
The exhibition runs from May 5 to May 14 and is available on 6, 7, 13 and 14 May between 13:00 and 20:00.
We hope to welcome you to many.
